CAF Warbirds at Bemidji MN--July 3-5, 2013
The Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing's deployment to Bemidji was a great success! We had beautiful flying weather and fantastic community support. We enjoyed meeting the many visitors who came to the airport, especially the World War II veterans who took time to share their experiences. Read more about some of our WW II veterans below.
The Minnesota Wing would like to thank Bemidji Aviation, the Experimental Aircraft Association's Bemidji Chapter, and AirCorps Aviation for supporting our deployment.

After his B-25 flight, WW II Navy veteran Don Sweeney of Bemidji shares his wartime experience with CAF members Jim Lauria (center) and Shawn Hokuf (right). Don, a spry 94 years old, was a crewman on the aircraft carrier USS Hornet when Jimmy Doolittle's B-25 bombers launched from the ship for their April 1942 raid on Tokyo. As a gunner near the flight deck, Don had a front-row seat to the launch. Don was on board the Hornet when it was sunk in Oct 1942. In this photo, Don is seen after his flight in the CAF's B-25, provided courtesy of the Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing. This was the first time since his wartime service that Don had been this close to a B-25.
